Ah the year 2000, for me, this was the year I was in year 10.

“Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” was published, and A destructive computer virus ILOVEYOU spread by e-mail shuts down computers world wide.

The Concerns over Y2K passes without the serious, widespread computer failures and malfunctions that had been predicted and Faulty Bridgestone/Firestone tyres on the Ford Explorer range blamed for nearly 100 fatalities.

The popular show Big Brother is broadcast on German private channel RTLH and captures worldwide media interest, and Australia hosted the Olympic games in Sydney.

American man Zeb Quinn went missing. His car was found 2 weeks later, with it’s lights on, a pair of lipstick lips drawn on the rear windscreen, and a live Labrador puppy inside. To this day Zeb Quinn has not been found.

Blockbuster Video declined the chance to buy Netflix for $50 million, and due to the massive success of Eminem’s song “Stan” the Oxford Dictionary made a definition of “Stan” – “an obsessive fan of a particular celebrity.”

Angelina Jolie married Billy Bob Thornton on May 5th, and Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston married on July 29th.

And finally Australia’s largest ever petition of 792,985 signatures was submitted to parliament to protest rising beer prices.
